Built the thing over a week ago but figured I’d ask if you have any questions on the anniversary of the landing because there’s already plenty of reviews.

Is it worth the level of wants that I have?

Yes

Absolutely. I think it was a better build and set than the GT3

Finished mine today. It’s big

I didn’t measure the shelf I intended it for and it clears by about 4 inches.

You know, I would pay good money for a larger version of the Eagle lander. The fact that they got that much detail into that smaller one is quite amazing.

You’re in luck. Set number 10029 from 2003 is exactly what you need. Haven’t seen a price under $300 though.

That’s exactly as I expected.

I still don’t understand how Legos aren’t the cheapest damn toys in the universe. They are all made with the SAME PARTS. Since like 1970. Are they not getting economies of scale?
You’d think Lego could re-release old models and offer anything for sale in perpetuity. All you’d need would be a machine to put the right pieces in the right bags, and seal them into printed boxes. They wouldn’t even need worldwide distribution for all the repop models. Just do a run of 1,000 now and then, and make them mail/online order only.
If I had a kid and those sets were available, I’d be buying him/her all kinds of great old Legos. Technic’s crossover between aesthetics and functionality is right on target, IMO. Or was, before they got into the unnecessary styling pieces recently. Why are they so expensive, even new?

There’s more specialized parts, and in some cases, licensing for products.

Those 70's ones have very basic parts and no licensing. This seaplane, for instance, is all standard parts afaik. I enjoyed the hell out of it as a kid in the 90's. There’s no reason they couldn’t keep making stuff like that!
It’s not like Hot Wheels, where they have all different castings and moldings except for the wheels. Legos are so interchangeable.

It’s not that they couldn’t. It’s just that they don’t want to.
